Moduleo Impress Shades for Sara Slade Interiors at Grand Designs Live

Some flooring is designed to make a statement. Other flooring has a different role. It provides the foundation that allows every other design choice to shine.

That was exactly the brief when Art of Flooring was asked to install Moduleo Impress Shades 62220 for an award-winning living room created by Sara Slade Interiors at Grand Designs Live at the NEC Birmingham.

Designed to celebrate colour, pattern and personality, the room needed a floor that would quietly hold the whole scheme together while standing up to the demands of one of the UK’s busiest home design exhibitions.

Bringing a Designer’s Vision to Life

Sara Slade Interiors won a competition to create a room set for Grand Designs Live, with a brief that encouraged visitors to embrace colour and confidence in their own homes.

Rather than relying on muted interiors, the design celebrated rich colours, layered textures and playful patterns, while combining carefully chosen statement pieces with accessible high street furniture. The result was a space visitors could realistically imagine adapting for their own homes.

For Art of Flooring, the flooring installation had to support that vision without competing with it.

Unlike a domestic installation, exhibition projects work to immovable deadlines. Every trade has a fixed window to complete their work, with no opportunity for delays once the show build begins. The finished floor also has to perform under constant footfall, bright exhibition lighting and the scrutiny of thousands of visitors over several days.

Delivering a clean, accurate installation on time was just as important as choosing the right floor.

Why Moduleo Impress Shades Was the Right Choice

Moduleo Impress Shades 62220 provided exactly the balance the design needed.

Its realistic wood-effect texture introduced warmth and natural movement beneath the room’s vibrant furnishings without overwhelming the overall scheme. Instead of demanding attention for itself, the flooring helped unify every other design decision.

That ability to combine authentic appearance with practical durability is one of the reasons luxury vinyl flooring is often specified for demanding residential and commercial environments alike. Moduleo’s Impress collection is designed to deliver realistic texture alongside long-lasting performance, making it well-suited to spaces that experience regular foot traffic.

A Collaborative Installation

Successful projects like this rely on close collaboration.

Sara Slade Interiors had a clear creative vision from the outset, and Art of Flooring’s role was to ensure the flooring installation supported that vision from the moment visitors stepped into the room.

Working to a strict exhibition programme meant every stage had to be completed accurately and on schedule, allowing the furniture, styling and finishing details to come together without delay.

While the flooring naturally sits in the background of the finished room, its installation played an important role in helping the entire design feel complete.

A Room That Left a Lasting Impression

The room set was showcased throughout Grand Designs Live at the NEC Birmingham between 10 and 14 October 2018, inspiring thousands of visitors looking for fresh ideas for their own homes.

One particularly memorable moment came when Kevin McCloud stopped to sit in the room and described it as “really cool.”

For a design created to encourage homeowners to be a little braver with colour and pattern, it was fitting praise.

More importantly, the project demonstrated how carefully chosen flooring can quietly transform an interior by supporting the overall design rather than competing with it.

The Result

This project highlighted something Art of Flooring believes every successful interior shares.

The best flooring does not always demand attention. Sometimes its greatest strength is giving everything else in the room a solid, beautiful foundation.

By installing Moduleo Impress Shades with care and precision, Art of Flooring helped transform a temporary exhibition space into a living room that felt warm, welcoming and entirely believable as a real home.

Whether the project is a nationally recognised design exhibition or a family living room in Cambridgeshire, the same principles apply: thoughtful product selection, careful installation and close attention to detail.
