Here we have an example of a quality installation of Westex Wool Carpet in Little Shelford Cambridge. For this project, you will see how we worked with our client to help them select the right carpet and also find solutions to update other areas of their home.
Our client was looking to replace the carpets in their home, and they also wanted to replace the tiled floor in the entrance hallway. The idea was to install new carpet so that it flowed throughout the ground floor of the home.
During a consultation at our showroom, we took some time to go through the different types of carpet available. Here at Art of Flooring in Cambridge, we are all about making sure our clients understand the product they are purchasing, and we want to make sure it is right for you. In this case, our client required a carpet that would be hard-wearing and suitable for all rooms. We recommended this 80% Wool and 20% Nylon tufted cut pile carpet for improved recovery, resilience and durability.
Following the consultation at our showroom, we visited the home to perform a survey. During this time, we took measurements and inspected the subfloor. This was when we discovered our first challenge...
The problem here was the tiles - laying carpet onto the tiles would create a difference in height between rooms. Our client had received quotes from other Cambridge based carpet suppliers who suggested using carpet shims to build a ramp and raise the lower floor in the doorway where it meets the tiles. This was not something our client wanted to do, so knowing this, we made arrangements to remove the tiles and strip back the subfloor. This would allow us to install the carpets at the same level throughout the ground floor. Although this process has a higher price than the alternative, it would make a big difference in the day to day life of the client and even the wear of the carpet over its lifetime.

When fitting carpets in multiple rooms, there will most likely need to be a join made at the doorway. These joins are commonly made from a metal trim in either aluminium or brass colour which is designed to hold two pieces of carpet together under the door. On this occasion our client had recently had new doors fitted to his home and as they were all solid oak doors which alone look stunning, we wanted to show them off. We bespoke made solid oak thresholds for every room so now every threshold perfectly compliments the amazing solid oak doors.
At Art of Flooring, we offer a complete range of quality carpet and flooring products, and this allows us to install different floor coverings in different areas of the home for our clients. Alongside the carpets our client had already selected, they were very interested in the wooden parquet flooring they saw during the showroom consultation. After some discussion, we worked with our client to design and install this Classic Oak Herringbone Floor in the entrance of their home.
From start to finish, we were able to complete this entire job in under two weeks, including the removal of tiles. Our client was delighted with the outcome and that we did the job with little disruption.
