At Art of Flooring, we love to install new flooring to give your home a lift, but we also love to breathe new life into tired and old flooring. This project was a perfect combination of the two.
This project began at our Sister company Art of Clean, who specialise in wood floor restoration. When a wood floor has been down for a while, and it begins to look, tired, dented and scratched, the inclination might be just to replace old for new. In some cases, yes, this might be the only solution but sometimes, a floor can be brought back to life. This article on what to do with a tired wood floor shows what we can do here.
Our clients contacted Art of Clean regarding the restoration of a lovely original timber floor in a bedroom. Art of Clean was able to assess the floor and then sanded away the old, worn top layer and refinished it to bring it back to new.

After the bedroom floor had been restored, the client decided to repeat the process on the stairs and to finish their project off, add a stair runner.
We love a stair runner at Art of Flooring because you still get the glorious visual effect of the wood underneath but with the safety, soundproofing and comfort that a carpet or stair runner can offer. Have a look and this article on staircase carpet and at our stair runner case studies in the carpet section see if you feel inspired.
We also installed a mixed smoked tumbled engineered oak in the living room to replace an old carpet which was incredibly impactful in this space.
We think the end result here was super as it was a wonderful combination of restoring the old and adding something new to compliment it.
