Hiring a professional flooring company

It can be intimidating hiring professionals to work in your home for you. After all, you really don’t know who they are do you? Here we try to take the worry out of who to hire by giving you a few useful tips on what to look for in a supplier and how you will know you are getting the best provider available.

Transparency

A quality flooring company will be transparent in all that they do. They will happily and willingly explain all your options, clarify their methods and tell you why these methods will save you money. By asking them questions you will quickly get a feel for how transparent they are being. If they are answering your queries confidently, openly and without frustration or pushiness these are all signs that they are a trustworthy supplier.

Recommendations and reviews

What better way to get an idea of someone’s credibility, especially if it is a recommendation from someone you know. If they are happy to endorse a trade’s services, chances are it will be a good experience for you too. You can also use reviews on Google, Facebook, Trustpilot and Houzz to get an idea of the service people offer. There is nothing more powerful than the opinion of other people. This is why at Art of Flooring we work really hard to get glowing reviews.

Art of Flooring has a testimonials section on their website as well as these sites.

Ask for examples of work

Ask to see previous jobs a company has done. A reputable company should have pictures of recent jobs and will explain how and why they fitt[ed the carpet the way they did. You can check our website for case studies to see the quality of the work

Clear billing

Any professional worth their weight will write out and explain each charge on an itemised list.

Art of Flooring lists out the cost of the carpet, the underlay, plus any accessories they need to complete the task such as gripper rods. They will also list the fitting cost per square meter of carpet and then the overall total fitting cost. There will also be a separate section on service costs for floor prep with or without existing floor removal and disposal.

There should never be any hidden extras so you should always discuss potential extras such as furniture removal and replacement when going through the itemised cost list.

Tip: You will need new gripper rods to hold the carpet down tight any time you get new carpet. Someone trying to cut corners may suggest reusing the old gripper rods.

They likely won’t be set for the new carpet thickness or they could be installed poorly by the previous carpet installer so you should always go for new and ensure you do a good job from the start, so things don’t go wrong later.

Do they know what they are doing?

Every carpet company should be following the British Standard BS5325 which is the code of practice for installation of textile floor coverings. Someone who is handy around the house or works as a basic contractor therefore may not do the best job. Companies that go above and beyond by getting further training care about the quality of their knowledge and service. That is why we send all employees on courses like this subfloor training with bodies like Uzin and Floorskills.

Art of Flooring has a membership for the Carpet Foundation which offers extra training and extra guarantees which they can pass on to their customers.

Tip: Check the company’s website or social media page. They probably do a special post about their employees that go to extra training!

We hope this guide gives you some useful tips on how to choose the best flooring company for your needs. Please do feel free to contact us if you want to know more.
