LVT is a hugely popular form of flooring for many reasons: durability, ease of cleaning, practicality, and the look.
However, there are so many different LVT designs on the market it can be a bit overwhelming.
Do I go for plain, do I go for wood effect (and which wood pattern at that), or perhaps tile effect, or maybe light or dark or colourful may be questions that plague your mind. It is not a small undertaking to choose a floor so here we hope to help guide you on which LVT might be most suited to your home.
When choosing a new floor the main things you need to think about are your personal style and how it will fit with existing décor. You also need to think about the room it is going in and if it has a purpose.
What is the style like in any given room, or indeed throughout the house?
Is it modern, traditional, rustic, or eclectic?
What colours have you already used in the room in your paint choices, soft furnishings, and artwork?
As LVT comes in various shades and patterns, understanding what colours and styles your floor must complement will certainly help you eliminate certain designs, shades and patterns on LVT if not help you completely decide on what you want.
How do you want a room to feel? The darker the LVT the cosier it will feel. Lighter flooring will create a sense of space.

Do you want a pattern on your LVT? You can choose from wood effect floor with traditional plank designs, herringbone, diagonal, or custom patterns. You can also choose colourful, continental style tiles which can add drama to the floor and would make an impactful statement in a Victorian hallway for example. The pattern you choose will have a huge effect on the style of the room and this is probably one of the most challenging aspects to consider.
LVT comes in various textures, including wood grain, stone texture, and smooth surfaces. Choose a texture that suits the room's style and comfort.
How do you use the room the flooring will go in. For high-traffic areas like the kitchen or living room, choose a durable and easy-to-clean LVT. In high traffic areas do you want your floor to hide or show spills and marks that you haven’t immediately had time to mop up? In bedrooms or less-frequented spaces, you have more flexibility in design.
Always be mindful of your budget for your flooring project. LVT comes in a wide range of price points, so choose a design that fits within your budget.
Linked to the purpose comes the idea of durability. Higher traffic areas will require a more durable flooring.
Additionally, some LVTs may require more maintenance than others so be mindful of how long you want to spend maintaining them.
Consult with a flooring specialist or interior designer for professional guidance, especially if you're unsure about your choices.
Some LVTs are eco-friendly or made from recycled materials so if you want to minimise impact on the environment look for these options for your LVT
Choosing your floor is personal to you so keep in mind considerations about your budget, personal style and your personal requirements from your floors. Experts can help and advise you on your choices and explain what is available to you but always take your time to explore options, gather information, and make an informed decision that suits you.
