Green, biobased and made of old soft furnishings? Really?
Well yes!
Every carpet needs a decent underlay (it gives the carpet longevity for one) and with growing awareness surrounding environmental issues and urgency to act to make changes to the way we live.
Tredaire sustainable, recyclable underlay called RENU, said ‘renew’, was developed so we can “say no to waste”.
Soft furnishings, paper and sugar cane
The “bouncy bit in the middle” is made from steam cleaned interiors of soft furnishings (foam from old sofas for example). This gives great underfoot comfort and insulation. Then for added resilience it is sandwiched in between a 100% recyclable paper backing and a layer of film which is made from responsibly sourced, carbon negative, bio-based sugar cane. This is also what the packaging is made from.
Great for the environment
It is their most ethically sourced underlay as it is made from 98% recyclable materials.
Being made in the UK it also means that carbon emissions from transport are kept to a minimum.
Carpets are wonderful, but every carpet needs an underlay for the reasons below.
1. Being 9mm thick this underlay offers great insulation like a thick duvet. It keeps the heat in, therefore saves energy, helping keep costs down.
2. It helps keep the noise down due to its high decibel rating, which equals tranquillity in your home.
3. It offers great under foot comfort and increases the life of your carpet as it is made from high density foam and because it is 9mm thick.
Landfill at the end of its life?
Absolutely not. It is 100% recyclable so at the end of its life it can be returned and renewed.
