Firstly, what is parquet? Parquet is a style of flooring, created by arranging planks (known as fingers) to form a pattern. Think herringbone, chevron, basketweave, mosaic – these are all parquet formations.
Parquet flooring isn’t limited to wood either now, it can also be fitted in LVT.
Whether you love or loathe parquet really is down to personal choice. There is no right answer. The bottom line it that is has to be right for your home and your style.
From a materials point of view, parquet flooring has all the same pros and cons as other wood or LVT floors. If your parquet is made from wood, it will face the same pros and cons that wood faces. If it is made from LVT, it will have the same pros and cons as other LVT floors.
Aesthetically, however, parquet is quite unique and this brings its own set of pros and cons.
Aesthetically interesting – due to the variety of styles that parquet comes in, it is an incredibly interesting look, and certainly a talking point.
A luxurious look – the materials used in parquet are high-quality and will elevate the look of any home

A timeless style – parquet isn’t anything new, in fact it was first used in France in 1500s and then became popular in Italy in the 1600s. It’s popularity in Britain declined in the 1930s but has since made a comeback, as renovators uncover parquet floors and restore them in homes
Busy – parquet flooring is busy, and it may clash with already existing decor in the home. Before installing parquet, think about how well it will go with the style of your home.
Cost – parquet materials can be expensive, however once installed, if well cared for you will recoup the costs of this extremely durable, long-lasting flooring.
