With wood becoming one of the most coveted types of flooring and with people wondering whether to choose solid or engineered flooring, we want to examine the benefits of engineered wood flooring.
Engineered is a great choice for the home for many reasons:
Engineered wood is made from 3 or 4 layers of plywood or hard wood which are glued together making a plank of about 14 mm. This layering makes it strong and hardwearing
On top of the layers of plywood there is a real wood veneer of about 4mm. This top layer means that as the wood suffers wear and tear over time (as all floors will) it can be sanded back and treated to restore the original finish (though there is a limit on how often this can be done before you sand back the veneer too much).
Engineered oak flooring is marginally cheaper that its solid wood competition.

Engineered wood uses a lot less of the tree per plank than solid hardwoods, making it a more environmentally sustainable, natural product.
A sweep, Hoover and a very well wrung mop (cool water only) will clean up a wood floor in no time. Wood won’t absorb spills like carpet will, making it a great family choice.
Engineered wood can come in a range of styles, designs, colours, and finishes. You can choose plank, herringbone or chevron, thick or thinner, narrow or wider, dark, light and anywhere in between, aged, knotted, or more modern. The range is endless and you will be spoilt for choice. Whatever combination you choose, your home will look superb.
