What are the benefits of synthetic carpet?

There are many types of carpet on the market, one of them being synthetic. This means it is machine made from materials such as polyester, nylon or polypropylene. They are very popular, and this article seeks to highlight why this is and what their benefits are.

They do not fade

Unlike wool, exposure to sunlight does not cause a synthetic carpet to fade, which is a definite plus for something you have potentially spent a large amount of time and money investing in.

Stain resistant

Synthetic carpets are commonly used in children’s rooms as they are good at resisting stains. If drinks are spilled, or perhaps a child was ill, then cleaning a synthetic carpet is relatively easy, and nylon in particular will resist stains due to the coating on the fibres

Less expensive than wool

Wool due to it’s natural origin tends to be priced higher than a synthetic carpet.

Range of colours

You can get a synthetic carpet in practically any colour you want

Comfort

Synthetic carpets are known for being very soft underfoot and so are hugely popular in bedrooms where you crave that feeling of luxurious comfort as you step out of bed.

Becoming environmentally friendly

Polyester carpets (which are plush and stain resistant too) are often now made of recycled materials making them more environmentally friendly than some of their nylon counterparts.

Can be used in a range of locations

Different pile types and different synthetics come with different resilience to traffic, so if you are choosing between the synthetic's ranges, and want a hard-wearing carpet for a hallway, choose a nylon loop pile.

If you want something for a medium traffic area, choose a polyester which is less hard wearing and opt for a cut pile.

Plush and velvets are less hard wearing but they are wonderful underfoot in the bedrooms where traffic is lower.

In summary

There are lots of positives to synthetic carpets, with price point, comfort and stain resistance being high on the list of reasons to invest for your home.
