You can lay any kind of flooring in a living room, but perhaps the best way to get to the bottom of what is best for you is to identify your requirements and the qualities of each floor type.
If you want a living room that offers feelings of warmth, comfort, and calm when you sit down after a hard day at work, then you want a floor that will promote that. In this instance a carpet would be well worth considering.
A carpet has insulating and sound proofing qualities as well as being soft underfoot, and all of these properties will give you that sense of calm and comfort that you seek. Carpet is however less easy to clean compared to other floors on the market so you may want to consider this as a factor when you make a decision.
If you have a young family or pets then you will be looking for something that is easy to clean. If this is the case then a Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) would be a wise choice, although this is in fact a more popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms than living rooms. LVT comes in all sorts of colours and styles now so you can style your house as you want making the floor a fantastic feature with this versatile, hardwearing, easy to clean flooring.

Or maybe you want something that is easy to clean and hard wearing but also aesthetically takes your room to another level.
In this case solid or engineered oak would be the best choice. Wood looks stylish and with a range of options including plank, herringbone, smoked, aged and so forth, there is a huge variety to choose from. If you want to increase the cosiness or change styles seasonally, the effect of a wood floor can be added to with rugs and other soft furnishings.
Due to its easy to clean nature and its effortless class, wood is the preferred choice of living room flooring for many.
Wood would be our preferred choice for a living room due to its stylish quality and easy to clean nature though LVT would work perfectly well here too.
Carpet would be a great choice for someone looking for comfort and who doesn’t need to worry about spills and muck.
